Introduction
The
first decision you must make after deciding on a specific
Satellite Radio Service is type design of the receiver.
There are benefits to both, a car device is perfect for the
long distance commuter who only listens to music in the
car. For many other people, portable devices like the
Audiovox SIRPNP2 are a great compromise because they can be
used at home or in the car. This review will focus on the
home unit.
Size and
Style
The
Audiovox SIRPNP2 is smaller than standard home audio
equipment. The unit measures 5 1/4 inches, by 3 7/16
inches, by 2 inches deep. The orange screen on the front of
the unit displays information about the music currently
being played. This is something I got used to pretty
quickly. With the information there I found myself looking
all the time to see the artist and song. The screen also
displays information about the currently selected SIRIUS
channel.
Setup
The
setup process was a simple process. There is only one
analog output on the base station. This was a simple
connection to the back of my home receiver. After setting
up the inputs on my receiver I plugged the base station into
an extra outlet. The unit has 30 presets and a easy to use
scroll to browse all the Sirius channels. Additional
features include a On Screen Clock, Alarm, Sleep timer,
Program Alert and remote control.
Content
I was
excited to checkout the music channels. The unit is in my
home office. I enjoy listening to different music while I
work. I’ve heard XM has technically better sound quality
but I was quite surprised that music was clear and of good
quality. The satellite signal provided steady, crystal
clear sound. I also found myself listening to some of the
talk and entertainment programming more than I would have
expected.
